Do looks matter? That is the million dollar question.
The answer is yes. But not so fast.
When I say looks do matter, I don’t mean that you have to have the looks of Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp.
If you look average or less than average, is it possible to be better looking? Absolutely.
I’ll share with you a few tips in a second. But first, a quick story:
Not too long ago, I came across a thread on Reddit about a kid who could not get any matches on Tinder because he thought he looked ugly. And he was even considering plastic surgery to make himself look good.
Now bear in mind, he didn’t have any strange deformities or anything. He was just a guy with average looks at best.
First of all, while you’re free to use dating apps, I err on the side of just going out and approaching girls. Second of all, why the hell would you want to throw away thousands of dollars and potentially risk your health just so you want to get laid?
Some surgical procedures can go wrong. Don’t believe me? Read about the guy who recently died while undergoing a penile enlargement procedure.
Notice how this guy had a shitload of money. But somehow he had an insecurity that he thought can be fixed with a medical procedure.
Yet, it ended up costing his life. So what Yours Dangerous is going to do is save you money (and possibly your life) in the process. Here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind so you can be better looking:
Maintain Facial Hair Regularly (if any): Full disclosure: I’m not in the “beards are in” camp. If you want to grow a beard, do it because it fits your personal style. Don’t grow one because some news article said it was more attractive. If you also want to rock stubble that screams, “I haven’t shaved in two days”, you’re welcome to do that. If you want to rock a goatee, do that also. But maintain it regularly. Also, if you have one of those disgusting neckbeards, just shave it off. Seriously.
Anyways, if you don’t have an electric razor, get one for your facial hair is too thick for a manual razor. A decent one should be priced around $20 or more. For the sake of this post, I have one that was about $40. Next, get a decent manual razor (like Shick or even a small bag of those yellow Bics). Use it if you want a more clean shaven look or for the purpose of maintaining your facial hair.
So assuming you grabbed a single manual razor, that will set you back around $10. So you spend around $30 to $50 on razors alone. Add in about $3 for a thing of shaving cream and that’s about $33 to $53. After shave is optional.
Work Out Regularly: This is a big one. If you want to be better looking, you got to work out regularly. You can work out at home or go to the gym. If you go to a gym, you can sign up for a monthly membership. Depending on where you go, the monthly fee will vary. On average, a gym membership costs $40 to $50 a month. If you’re a student, you can use the gym on your campus free of charge.
At the outset, you can start out at three times a week and work your way up to five times a week. Plan your workouts where you are focusing on specific parts of your body (i.e. Monday–Chest and Abs, Tuesday–Arms and shoulders). Also, your fitness results won’t show if you continue to eat McDonalds and drink Coke, so consider a change in your diet also. We’ll delve into that another time.
Change The Way You Dress: I’m not talking about going around wearing a suit all day. But I’m talking about dressing in a manner that is opposite to wearing a t-shirt and pjs all day. If you’re looking for ideas on how to change your overall style, check out Tanner Guzy. The guy is the grand master of how you should dress like a respected, masculine man.
Brush Your Teeth: Nothing is more important than a nice, healthy smile. And this is simply a no-brainer thing to do. You don’t want to walk around with bad breath, right? And you sure as hell don’t want a girl that you’re chatting up look at you in disgust because of your yellow teeth, do you? If you answered no to both questions, then you’re pretty smart. Brush at least two or three times a day. Also, if you’re teeth tend to be crooked or need to be worked on, do consult with a dental professional (notice that I said dental professional, not plastic surgeon).
Play With The Hand You’re Dealt: I know what you’re thinking, “Adam, what the hell do you mean by this?” There’s a lot of you gentlemen reading this that have gotten the short end of the genetic stick. You’re on the short side. You’re not as good looking in the face.
There are some things that you can’t control. But you can play the hand you’re dealt with in more ways than one. For example, work on being an interesting individual. Be a conversationalist and show that you authentically care about the person you’re talking to. Have a bit of a sense of humor. I’m not talking about wacky, Three Stooges kind of funny. We’ll dig more into these topics in separate blog posts. I promise.
Looks do matter. But to an extent. Sure, you may not be a 10 or a devastatingly handsome guy. But you can be a less than average or average man that can look their best by following the tips above. Developing your best look won’t happen overnight. It will take time. But once you look better than you do now, you’ll feel your confidence go through the roof.
With that said, gentlemen…I’ll speak to you soon.
